5 years ago I had what you could call a wonderful, picture perfect “life CV”. I was playing hockey for the NSW Women’s Team, working in a lucrative corporate job as a leader for a large global recruitment firm and had a wonderful social life with fabulous family and friends. My life was a race at 100 miles an hour, filling up my days with endless to do lists, eating and drinking whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and I was always trying to achieve something at any cost, especially to myself.
During this time my body was desperately trying to communicate to me through persistent symptoms.
I would have allergies, cold’s and flu’s multiple times a year, headaches, irritable bowls, massive mood swings, bloating, a foggy head, muscle aches, constant fatigue, acne, excess weight, sleepless nights and an underlying anxiety and depression that I masked with superficial pleasures.
Deep down, I knew I wasn’t 100% but I was so focused on “doing” so much and “achieving” so much, that I pushed through and ignored everything my body was trying to say. I never once stopped to question my beliefs or why I was doing what I was doing and whether it was what I really wanted out of life. I believed because I was doing what everyone else around me was doing, I would be fine and healthy….I was wrong!
In 2011 at the age of just 26, I was struck down with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
My burn and churn lifestyle finally had caught up to me and I was bedridden for 6 months. I could not wash my own hair, I could not walk to the bathroom without my heart racing as if I was running a marathon and at times I did not have energy to talk. I had to quit my job, quit hockey and move in with my parents for support, spending all my savings on medical bills.
I was stripped of everything I had and everything I was, everything I identified and defined myself with. Unfortunately, no conventional medical doctor could help me I decided to take matters into my own hands and embarked on a journey to help heal myself….
Over the next 4 years, I spent every minute of every day researching everything I could about how to heal my body naturally. I discovered the power of using food as medicine, natural healing tools and the power of the mind to heal the body. Slowly but surely I started to heal – physically, mentally and spiritually. I re-discovered what life was really all about and I started to feel the best I had ever felt in my life!
I was blessed that through this journey I found my true passion and purpose in life (my Y) and now work as a Certified Holistic Health + Wellness Coach to educate, inspire, motivate and guide other women to make positive changes in their life that serve them on all levels. I believe that by waking more people up to living a life that is true to their authentic self and most importantly a healthy, happy life of inner peace and contentment, this in turn can create a positive ripple effect in the world.
